Today we got to ride a Gondola through the watery streets of
Venice. The Gondola rides are a major tourist trap in Italy but, of course,
Caroline HAD to ride one. It cost us 80€ for a 40 minute ride. It was such a
beautiful ride, though. We got to experience the entire city through the eyes
of our marvelous gondolier, Sergio. Our ride took us through the more quiet back canals of Venice, this way we were able to avoid the more crowded and noisy areas of the city. Our gondola was absolutely gorgeous with beautiful carvings and super comfortable seating. While we couldn't convince Sergio to serenade us, we got to enjoy the wonderful (and sometimes not so wonderful) voices of other gondoliers who passed by us. Sergio was a amazing tour guide, pointing out many different famous locations along our route. It was very relaxing to glide smoothly across the water, so much so that Kara almost fell asleep! We threatened to dump her in if she did. Sadly our ride had to come to an end, we thanked Sergio for his help and hopped out of the gondola.
After we had lunch, at a small café in the hotel, Bella Venezia Hotel Venice, and checked out of the hotel we called for a water taxi and arrived back where we started in Venice, the train station. Our train was scheduled for 3:25 p.m. but just in case we arrived an hour and a half early. After about 45 minutes the train had arrived in Venice and we were allowed to board. Our tickets were for second class and at the back of the train. As we waited the train filled up and at exactly 3:45 p.m. the train left the station and headed for Rome. After the pleasant scenic three hour and forty five minute train ride we arrived in Rome at 7:10 p.m. After arriving in Rome we went to our hotel, Orange Hotel Rome,
and dropped our stuff off. We spent the rest of the evening in the hotel gathering our strength for the next day.
